King Street Brewing Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

It was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We were literally laying floor tile the weekend before that. Two hours before the grand opening, we’re out there in the tap room laying down the carpet floor tile with glue we hoped would keep them down.   Read more...

Going Big

King Street Brewing, originally located at 7924 King Street, has come a long way from its humble beginnings. At the previous location, the owners expanded their space as much as possible, but they outgrew it nonetheless.   Read more...

King Street O'Fest

My ongoing quest to be out of town as much of possible during the summer and my sometimes inattentiveness to sudsy events caused me to miss an important milestone in local brewing history last week when I missed King Street Brewing Company’s long anticipated move to a brand new facility about a half a mile south of its original location on King Street.  Read more...

King Street Migrates South

My ongoing quest to be out of town as much of possible during the summer and my sometimes inattentiveness to sudsy events caused me to miss an important milestone in local brewing history last week when I missed King Street Brewing Company’s long anticipated move to a brand new facility about a half a mile south of its original location on King Street.  Read more...

King Street Celebrates Five Years

King Street Brewing Company celebrated five years of explosive success in November. They first appeared on my radar in 2010 when I noticed  a liquor license application in the Press announcing the new brewery. I drove to the location in South Anchorage on King Street and peered through dusty windows into the shell of the building. I tucked my business card in the door and waited.  Read more...

Tall Order

Alaska’s breweries continue to join the ranks of craft breweries all over the United States that are espousing canned beer as an alternative to — or at least an addition to — bottled and draft packaging formats for getting their beer to market. It makes sense.  Read more...

All About the Glass

When you belly up to the bar and the publican pulls you a pint, do you ever think about the glass it’s served in? There’s a whole lot more than the standard restaurant pint glass when it comes to serving beer. Most savvy beer lovers understand the shape and design of a beer glass ultimately affects not only the beer’s physical appearance and appeal, but how the shape can enhance the sensory enjoyment of the beer as well.  Read more...

King Street Celebrates IPA Day

For some, it’s a bitter nirvana; for others, a face-puckering turnoff. India Pale Ales, or IPAs, are a popular style of beer pouring forth from more than 2,300 small breweries and brewpubs across the country, including more than two-dozen in Alaska.  The style is so popular, in fact, that brewers and beer fans celebrate “IPA Day”.  Read more...

Beyond the Growler

Although it’s been in the brewery’s long term business plan, the introduction of a more portable product had been set aside in deference to the brewery’s steady entrenchment into the market with draft beer.  Read more...

Beer goes white collar at Sullivan's

Beer history is being made in Alaska. Beer history can be defined by numbers, sales, exposure, events, and many other things. There’s an event coming up that I feel takes Alaska beer culture to a new level. Read more...

King Street Brewing hits its stride

The King Street Brewing Company brewed its first batch in August of this year, but like other prudent breweries ran test batches and tweaked the complicated brewing system first before actually getting goods to market and advertising that their tasting room was open for business. On October 25, the brewery started selling its beers to select accounts around town, and as I suspected, the beer became an instant hit. Then, on November 26, when the finishing touches were done on the tasting room at 7924 King Street in south Anchorage, the brewery unveiled its beautiful new tap room. The day before Christmas was, embarrassingly, the first day I'd visited. Read more...

Long Live the King! (Street Brewery)

In summary, I was really impressed with King Street Brewery. The beer was excellent, the facilities were first-rate, and the people behind the process were both friendly and obviously know what they're doing when it comes to brewing beer. I plan to make King Street Brewery one of my regular stops whenever I visit Anchorage, and I'm looking forward to seeing them down here at the Second Annual Kenai Peninsula Beer Festival next summer. King Street Brewing Company Debuts

Put one more on your list of local breweries providing local beer to be sought out and enjoyed. King Street Brewing Company is officially brewing beer now, and after a protracted battle the myriad of government agencies that are more meddlesome than helpful, King Street’s got all of its licensing requirements and inspections out of the way and beer’s pouring. Our new target date is now July 1st

King Street Brewing Company originally anticipated a February opening. "Our new target date is now July 1st," says King Street owner/brewer Shane Kingry. And, as I suspected, much of the holdup thus far has been the inspections. Read more...

Welcoming a new brewery

One of the best ways of discovering breweries-to-be is by monitoring the liquor license applications in our local papers. And when an application for a license for a new brewery pops up, it’s usually a jolt to me because I feel I should already know about it. Such was the case with the application someone brought to my attention for the King Street Brewery. I was immediately on the hunt. Read more...

Beer of the Month

KING STREET OKTOBERFEST - 5.4%

King Street’s Oktoberfest lager is dark gold to light orange in color, and its rich malty aroma entices you to take a sip. Medium bodied, slightly toasty, and a complex upfront Vienna and Munich malt sweetness give way to a clean crisp finish that begs to be followed.
